About the Directors

 

Brandon McDaniel, MMEd

Brandon McDaniel has been the director of the Riverdale High School Orchestra since 2012. Prior to RHS, Mr. McDaniel directed the orchestra at Charles Drew High School from 2011 to 2012 and the Clayton County Middle School Honor Orchestra from 2013 to 2015.

He received his Bachelor's degree in music education from Kennesaw State University in 2009 where he was appointed university scholar in music education. He received a Master's degree in music education from the University of Georgia in 2016 where he was inducted into the honor society of Phi Kappa Phi. He is currently pursuing a doctorate in music education from the university of Georgia. Mr. McDaniel has studied conducting under Michael Alexander and John Culvahouse, Music Composition under Lawrence Sherr and Richard Dudas, and Double Bass Performance under Douglas Sommer of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra.

In addition to directing orchestra at RHS, Mr. McDaniel is an active composer and arranger, arranging popular songs and original works for the orchestra. Mr. McDaniel is also actively involved in music education research, particularly in the areas of music perception and cognition, biomusicology, and the psychological connection between music and emotion.

 

Michael Pla, BM

Mr. Pla has been the director of the Riverdale High School Band since 2000. Prior to that he taught band at FAMU DRS and Suwanee Middle and High Schools.

Mr. Pla recieved his Bachelors of Music from Florida A&M University and was a trumpet section leader in the famous “Marching 100”. Mr. Pla is an active arranger and composer and frequently writes original pieces for the band to perform.

 

Amdrea Allegrone, MFA

Ms. Allegrone has taught visual art at Riverdale High School since 2017. Prior to that she taught art an Morrow High School. Ms. Allegrone has also taught art at the college level at institutions such as the College of Coastal GA and St. Leo University. Ms. Allegrone is an active artist and has sold numerous paintings and drawings.
